LIIAR analysis for double page spread

The images used on the double page spread differ as the left half is just a Close-up of Eva Mendes which is very dominant because of the clothing worn by her for this image. The page is white however she is dominant because the backdrop if blurred and there isn't a lot shown within the left half. The right half has another 2 images within the feature of the double page spread which is written in black and italic, there is a drop cap to start off the feature/story which instantly connects to the audience through the font of the text to. The article is questions and answers which are about her fragrance advertisement shown within the article.

LIIAR analysis for Contents Page

As we can see the image for this contents page is very dominant and the colours of the clothing worn don't mix with the colour scheme making it interesting for the reader. The main colour scheme is Yellows, blacks and white with features down the bottom right of the contents page and the promotion along the bottom of the the contents page.
The Masthead of the contents page isn't dominant but is the brightest colour of the contents page which is also eye catching for the audience. The website of the magazine company is in small print on the bottom left and the issue number is on the bottom right hand corner. The feature headlines are bold with a mini summary underneath the title so the audience know what they are reading. The overall Contents page is very eye catching for the audience and works well within the colour schemes.

Music Magazine LIIAR Analysis

L-Media Language- The language is shown within the graphics, text, font and colour schemes. This music magazine is close up shot of Kayne West with blue, pink and black fonts with a grey graphology. The left and right third have both got texts the left is the anchorage and kicker, the right is the subtitles about other artists. There is a Masthead and skyline with a logo and also a website within the bottom left of the magazine.

I- Institution- Vibe is a music and entertainment magazine founded by producer Quincy Jones. The publication predominantly features R&B and hip-hop music artists, actors and other entertainers. After shutting down production in Summer 2009, Vibe was purchased by the private equity investment fund InterMedia Partners and is now issued quarterly with double covers, with a larger online presence. The magazine's target demographic is predominantly young, urban followers of hip-hop culture.

I- Ideology- The ideology is shown within the image as Kayne West looks very serious, this can show he is serious about his work or it may just be the pose the photographer wanted him to do. It is also to promote R&B music through Kayne West this can be in a positive way as he isnt holding any weapons or promoting drugs, the subtitles used are about his life and also another storyline which doesnt promote a bad image for R&B music.

A- Audience- The audience for Vibe magazine are roughly between 16-28 as rap and r'n'b music is usually listened to by people of a similar age to this. The audience is comprised of trendsetting individuals passionate about music, entertainment, fashion and pop-culture. Our readers look to the VIBE brand to keep them ahead of the curve, visiting VIBE.com and the VIBE Lifestyle Network sites multiple times a day – and referencing VIBE magazine for all things hot, new and cool.
R- Representation- The clothing used is informal and Hip-hop, the model isn't posing but connecting with the audience because he is looking straight into the camera. The magazine can appeal to males and females who like R&B music because of the colours used within the magazine front cover.

L-Media Language- The language shown within the graphics, text and font are shown through the colours used and the Serif fonts that are bold, the colours used are yellow, pink, black and white this can show that the magazine is for any gender because of the variety. The main image is a long shot of of a musician, also the other images used are close-ups of other artists. All if the images connect with the audience because they are all looking into the camera, however all have different poses. The main image is important as it is bigger then the rest and also is a different camera shot and angle. The music magazine also has a skyline, kickers, subtitles, promotions, barcode and a slogan which are all media language.

I-Ideology- The ideology of the magazine can be shown through the model as he is serious and his head is titled, this can show disorientation to the model and the viewer. It also promotes 'rock' music through the kicker and other artists, this doesn't promote a bad representation towards rock music as the images used don't show rock in a bad light the way other media types may do.

I-Institution- Kerrang! commenced publication on 6 June 1981 and was edited by Geoff Barton initially as a one-time supplement in the Sounds newspaper, which focused on the New Wave of British Heavy Metal phenomenon and on the rise of other hard rock acts. Angus Young of AC/DC appeared on Kerrang!’s first cover. The original owner was United Newspapers who then sold it to EMAP in 1991. In 2008 EMAP sold its consumer magazine to current owner Bauer Media Group.

A-Audience- Young, individually minded and passionate consumers, an audience defined by attitude, passion and loyalty. Radio - 15-35 male bias. The ABC1 profile is 52%, Mean age is 22. 'Kerrang!' has 172,600 unique users, 55,589 twitter followers and 12,208 facebook fans this can show that this music magazine is very popular because of the age range and music within the magazine.

R-Representation- The clothing used on the front cover of this magazine is quite dark as it is a rock magazine this can represent the darkness of the music or the model used as he may like wearing this colour. The model is posing and also is connected with the audience through his eyes looking straight into the camera. As i have said previously the magazine is for any age and gender therefore is very appealing to anyone who enjoys this genre and any of the artists represented of this cover.

L-Media Language- The language shown within the graphics, text and font are shown through the colours used and the Serif fonts that are bold, the colours used are Red, Black, White, Pink and the use of scenery. this can show that the magazine is for any gender and any reader because of the variety. The main image is a long shot and the band have been placed in an open area. All the members are connection with the audience because they are looking straight into the camera although posed differently. The lead singer is placed infront of the other members which can show status of importance to the band. The music magazine also consists of the conventions as it has a masthead, skyline, subtitles, barcode and promotions which is needed for a music magazine.

I-Ideology- The main image is large and takes up majority of the cover as it is also a band it is important to fit them all in without it looking unprofessional. The magazine also promotes this band through the main headline on the fron cover, this can also promote the music they record, it also promotes other music types through the subtitles which has other artists within it showing that the magazine can be for any person, as it is a range of music types, The image doesnt promote a bad representation of the band because the models are all dressed and posed casually.

I- Institution- Q is a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom. Q was first published in October 1986, setting itself apart from much of the other music press with monthly production and higher standards of photography and printing. In the early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide to music and more". Originally it was to be called Cue (as in the sense of cueing a record, ready to play), but the name was changed so that it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine.

A-Audience- The target audience for Q magazine are the older generation such as people in their 30's and 40's who are looking for a different mode of address, more sophisticated and just want to know more about the music. Although the founders state that they want to appeal to all the older generation, it seems that Q magazine doesn't appeal to many woman of that age.

R-Representation- The clothing used for this magazine is casual/smart as they are all wearing jeans and a shirt which are all different styles which can show their specific personality. The background is also casual as it isn't dark or gloomy it is a nice scenery image. The magazine is i think can be for any gender and age through the colour and artists placed within the subtitles of the cover. Also the band is connecting with the audience through the pose and image itself.

Evaluation for college magazine

Evaluation for college magazine
I have used the conventions of a magazine to produce my college magazine as my masthead is on the left top of my magazine and my skyline is above the masthead. I have also added subtitles and a kicker to my college magazine, however I haven’t followed the convention of the imagery being on the left third as the image I took wasn’t positioned the right way therefore I had to place my subtitles on the right third for my magazine to work, I realise I have done this and it doesn’t follow the conventions however I feel works well. The imagery does follow the task as it is medium close-up and my model is looking directly into the camera making her connect with the audience. The colours I chose have worked well and I have used the colour purple as it is a wyke colour, white for the masthead and skyline as it stands out and orange because it works well with the rest of the colour scheme, I feel the colours used work well and don’t seem out of place. I have also added a barcode, price and dates as this is also a useful convention of a magazine because the audience need to know this information about the magazine. For the kicker I have chosen yellow as the colour because it makes the story stand out and also interesting because it is a bigger font to the other subtitles. I have also used a screamer within a subtitle of ‘college students GO WILD!’ as the ‘go wild’ is in capitals and has an exclamation mark at the end suggesting it is an interesting story to read about. The font I used was Calibri italic as I feel this worked well with my design and also isn’t a boring font to look at.
My college magazine represents students and teachers as it is advertising the college therefore shows wyke is popular and also that wyke has a good reputation of students progressing onto university and therefore shows the good teaching at wyke, It also represents the students of Wyke because as I have used a student for my image and also the subtitles link to the student and the college. As the has a positive kicker it shows how students aren’t how they can be portrayed in the media industry as students are represented badly within the news or newspapers, however my college magazine shows that students aren’t all badly behaved which can be show in my kicker.
The audience for my magazine would be adults, students that attend and students looking to enrol at the college and staff as I feel the text used it suitable for all ages and also show the reputation of the college. Parents may be interested to find out about the college and the reputation of the college and if student progress to university, student will be interested because it is about their life college and fellow students, staff will be interested because it shows their teaching skills and how the students’ progress after college. I also feel the colours used are suitable for all students, parents and staff whether male and female because I have used neutral colours so isn’t for a specific gender.
I attracted the audience by the use of colour for my college magazine as the main colour is subtle however the subtitles and image are a little brighter therefore catches the eye of reader. The kicker is also an attraction because it is very bright and is the main story so people will want to know more about the student and the college. I also attracted the audience because my model looks straight into the camera which connects with the audience. Also the small image of the parties that can happen at wyke may also be an attraction because it shows students work however can have a good time which may attract a lot of students to wyke. The subtitle about the interview also gives an insight to student life and isn’t just word of mouth because you can read about different student opinions. However as the image is on the left third when stacked in a supermarket the audience will immediately see the subtitles not the image which isn’t very suitable for a magazine as I didn’t follow specific conventions when producing my magazine.
To create my magazine I used Photoshop, a digital camera, Prezi, and search engines as this helped me chose and design my ideas. Using these have helped me throughout my task and I have learnt more about Photoshop and how to use Prezi as it was a new website and a new software, however I found it very easy and helpful to use throughout my task. The good thing about using a digital camera is it is easy to download the picture onto the computer; you can look at the images you have taken and also look at the quality of the image taken. As I have used Photoshop before I found it easy, however I did learn a few more things to improve my college magazine and make it more interesting and also it was easy to use, I feel all these technologies helped me create a good magazine and also it was easy to use because the software used weren’t confusing or hard to find, making it easier to make my magazine and also making it quicker to produce my magazine as I wasn’t rushing to find different software’s to do a specific change to my college magazine.
