Images 2 for college magazine

this image works well because bryonie connects with the audience and also looks enthusiastic about college however the positioning of byronie doesnt work as the window shows everything in the area which ruins the image.
i have taken a picture of the halloween party advertisment as it shows the parties Wyke holds within college and also gives the impression that the college isn't just about work.
this image shows the facilities within college so works for the audience and also bryonie connects however it isnt Medium Closeup so doesnt work and also the image would be to big to use.
this image shows the work that has been done within college and one of the courses that can be chosen. however the lighting used isnt very good so therefore doesnt work for the imagery.

Images for College Magazine

these are the images i have taken for my magazine, i chose to use other images that involve college activities that i will use to show what my stories would be about.

the advantage of this image is Bryonie is connecting with the audience through her eyes as they are looking straight into the camera, and also has college work in her arms showing she is a college student.
the disadvantage is her facial expressions as she isnt smiling alot so doesnt seem enthusiastic enough.

this image is also good as bryonie connects with the audience and is also smiling, however the background chose is well thought out so doesnt work well with the idea i was wanting to create.

i feel this image is good as it shows the college awards and how well the college does, also bryonie connects with the audience well again and is smiling, however i dont think it is Medium Closeup so therefore doesnt work with the criteria given.

Magazine Layout Conventions

LIIAR
L-Media Language, The Language is shown within the graphics, text, fonts and colour scheme. This College Magazine has a Medium shot with yellow & white fonts surrounding the image. the majority of the colour scheme is black, however it also has yellow and white text to show another element of colours. The left third and right third is where the subtitles and storylines are placed, this is iconic because when stacked in a store this is the text you see first.

I- Institutions/Publisher, The institution is for education and the publisher is College lifestyle.

I-Ideology, The ideology of the magazine advertises the College through the student which is linked to marketization as the college need the students to be open, which suggests it isnt about the college its purely the business of the reputation of the college.
A-Audience, The people reading this would be college students or teenagers as it is aimed at this age group, you can see this because the skyline says 'your exclusive guide to everything hip, hot & happening' this type of text is written for teenagers. The are 60- 70 thousand viewers.

R-Representation, The Representation of the magazine is having fun at college and enjoying college life, it specifies this within the image as the model is cheery and seem enthusiastic about his education. Another representation is used within the subtitles as they show what is within the magazine and what you can do within college.

L- The media language is shown within the graphics, text, font and colour scheme, as you can see this magazine is different as this has a more iconic person on the cover. The colour scheme is black and red with white text, this connects to the image as Madonna is wearing black & white. The font is Arial and also bold so easy to read, the left third is where the subtitles and storyline are placed. The image of Madonna is a Medium Close-up which shows the expression in the models face and also cover majority of the cover.

I- The institution is for the music industry and the editor of 'Q' magazine is Paul Rees. The magazine is published monthly which is shown in the dates.

I- The ideology is the magazine benefits music as they have used a musician icon for the imagery within the contents page, also it shows that music isn't just music but a sex appeal aswel due to the posing of Madonna and it also promotes other artists around the music industry suggesting that the music industry is just about business.

A- The audience for 'Q' are for people who enjoy music and enjoy knowing about different groups and their lives as a star. The graphics also apply to the audience as it shows how well know 'Q' magazine is.

R-The representation of the magazine is Madonna and also the music industry, as Madonna has been used it can show their popuarity and also the representation of her is physically attractive, as the audience will know she is in her 50's, Madonna may have also been used because she is very popular and good at her music.

Preliminary Exercise

For my First task i have been asked to produce a front cover of a new School/College magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in a medium close-up plus some appropriate laid-out text and masthead. Additionally i must produce a mock-up layout of the contents page to demonstrate my grasp of DTP.
